Prefer "angle brackets" over "pointy brackets"

Reading the spec today, I noticed that it uses the term “pointy brackets” for the characters < and >.

This confused me initially: I’ve not seen this term before, and I wanted to confirm it wasn’t referring to { and } (which have a point in the middle!).

Would you be open to using the term “angle brackets” instead? Googling suggests that “angle brackets” is much more widely used for these characters.

The spec uses “angle brackets” in one place, and “pointy brackets” in five places. As far as I can see there’s no difference between the terms as far as the spec is concerned.

You should post spec issues at its GitHub repo. The spec author, @jgm, has mostly moved on from this forum since the spec is essentially in maintenance mode. Maintenance related discussions happen in that repo.

I was about to submit a PR, but I see @jgm has already kindly fixed it! Use "angle brackets" instead of "pointy brackets." · commonmark/commonmark-spec@5f83b16 · GitHub
