Are there any plans or extensions to markdown to support colour input, and not via the html/css style mechanism?

I wouldn’t expect specific syntax to be added for describing colour, given that colour is a presentational feature while Markdown/HTML is designed to describe the structure of the content independent of how it is presented. However, it may be possible to add colour to particular sections of the document if the consistent attribute syntax becomes an extension.

I would add to this that there are some extensions that may provide semantics that are represented via various colors, common examples include any syntax to represent <mark>, <ins>, and <del>.
