If you look at the AST for this example you’ll notice that the first line has trailing spaces. My understanding from 4.8 is that leading and trailing spaces for lines in a paragraph are to be stripped – but that’s not the case here.
I think that perhaps the reference implementation is treating the spaces before \ as interior spaces and therefore leaving them alone. Shouldn’t they be stripped since the \ isn’t “really” the last character in the line?
