I was the CTO of a firm where we used / customized Markdown heavily to reach similar functionality like foreign key in relational database system.

I strongly believe that in such way we can organically integrate structured data and unstructured (wiki-like) text. With that organic integration we could
get a more flexible system, and moreover, we can have the same information source for human and for machine.
