I'm a software developer, recently retired from Microsoft. I'm interested in knowledge representation and languages, and thinking about where to move to next, both virtually and physically.

Don't let the avatar fool you, I'm not an XML fan, instead believe white space and a little punctuation can go a long way to clarify intent, so approaches that shake up the angle brackets like YAML and CommonMark have stirred my imagination on what to do post-retirement.

Most of my coding recently has been done in PowerShell and C#. I'm currently teaching myself TypeScript. I have dev/ops experience in large-scale online services including Windows Azure Storage, Forefront e-mail filtering, and LiveMeeting web-based conferencing. I worked on an open-source C# implementation of YAML and Visual Studio integration for YAML in my (nearly non-existant) free time a few years back.

Before the getting into online services, I worked on server products including Microsoft English Query (which once shipped as part of SQL), and Microsoft Speech Server. Before that I was software development consultant both within and before Microsoft.

Somehow, I've gotten a little older over the years. I've still have a VAXstation I on a shelf in the garage, but haven't turned it on in over a decade. But as my eyes get older, the thought of that big monochrome monitor have a certain nostalgic appeal.
