# Generic directives/plugins syntax

As I understand it, the priority right now is to get version 1.0 of the core CommonMark spec finalized before adding extensions. See [this thread about adding tables to CommonMark](https://talk.commonmark.org/t/tables-in-pure-markdown/81):
